- “I started at Shift Fitness in July 2020. I was looking to up my fitness level, because although I was working out on my own and mountain biking a lot, I didn’t feel I was at my best performance. I signed up with Sean for functional strength and conditioning classes, in a small group setting. Sean asked about my activities, and took the time to really get to know me and my fitness level. When I told him I mountain bike, Sean made sure to incorporate movements with weights and mobility that are necessary for riding. Sean’s classes are well organized and give me a total body workout using weights, body strength, machines, movements for balance, resistance, and getting that heart rate going. I am seeing a big difference in myself physically and in my performance in my outside activities. I’ve become a faster runner and I’m stronger on my bike, enabling me to ride more technical terrain. Sean is so knowledgeable with functional strength, conditioning, and injury prevention. Shift Fitness also offers metabolic fitness tests, physical therapy, and nutrition coaching. - “I can’t say enough good things about Sean and the team at Shift Fitness. I approached Sean about starting up a personal training regiment in October of 2020 and have been working consistently with him since then. It’s long enough where I can give an honest review. When we had our first conversation, Sean took notes, was sensitive to my requests and very clearly took the time to respect my wishes. The workouts have been a reflection of that respect and sensitivity. We work hard. I consistently burn anywhere from 800-1100 calories each workout and have seen dramatic improvement in my functional strength and overall fitness. I couldn’t do more than 2 pull-ups when I started and can do 7-8 clean reps now. That’s a big deal for me. I can run flat out on the treadmill or do a hard assault bike sequence in between heavier lifts and still maintain my breath/composure. It’s a great feeling. Sean is very mindful of structuring workouts based on levels of muscle fatigue and goals. I cannot stand trainers that don’t put in the work to get creative or to try new movements. What’s the point? - I give Shift Fitness my highest recommendation. I am an active person and moved to Central Oregon to enjoy all of the outdoor activities and sports our community has to offer. However, I’ve been dealing with frequent and ongoing injuries, keeping me from participating in the activities that I love. For the last 20 years, I have been seeing a variety of medical and naturopathic providers with the focus on injury recovery. After spending about 50% of the last 5 years being injured and recovering, I decided to try working with Sean and the team at Shift Fitness with a focus on injury prevention. Sean recommended a personalized plan for me that included meeting with Shift’s nutritionist, Eddie, and physical therapist, Carol. Between the 3 of them, we came up with a plan to address my dietary needs (and reduce my COVID weight) and to create a personalized training plan that includes physical therapy components focusing on injury prevention. In the 5 months that I’ve been working with Shift Fitness, I’ve lost 30 pounds and have been able to continue doing the activities I love. I had one significant fall this winter that normally would have been a season-ending injury but I was able to continue my activities and recovered in just 3 weeks! Sean is also quick to adapt our personal training sessions to meet my current injury prevention needs (as my chronic neck, shoulder, and knee issues arise).
